The Soul Goals, Episode 50: Steve
Stevie G is the definition of a true competitor. His drive and dedication to his family and friends along with his faith are two of the main pieces that kept him on his path, clean and sober for 31 years. For a number of years, Steve’s addiction was hidden behind a high-functioning attitude, covering his issues while he continued relationships and work life, knowing underneath that this was no way to live.
Steve recalls the moment he was faced with confronting his addiction and speaks to his choices: He could come clean to his family who had no idea what he had been hiding or run away from it all. He recalls the pivotal moment that he realized the second chance at a new way of life for himself, through the grace of God and the true gift of forgiveness. Recovery left him to rebuild so many pieces of his world but it also allowed him to find a source of grace and the need to begin living by example rather than falling prey to an addiction that nearly robbed him of all the things he valued so dearly.
Today, Steve is a beloved member of each community he is a part of, a true testament to a life that he worked hard to recover. His road to recovery involved some deep valleys but his faith and the support he leaned on rallied a huge well of resilience within him. Today, you can find Steve crushing CrossFit competitions both locally and regionally, spending time with his beautiful wife, their two daughters, and their granddaughter, and being an example of life-on-the-other-side to those needing a guidepost. His story is proof that there is hope for all that struggle
